Great question, John. I am not a product manager but think about it for my next move. However, I like to think about why it attracts me because it makes me think of other roles as well. Besides being a CEO/entrepreneur, I can see a lot of product people being executive directors for non-profits or some sort of Chief Strategy position. I can also see work in local government or city planning. It's a good question, especially as people think about the future of product managers! Like your story about the Celtics too : )

Thanks Natalie! And thanks so much for sharing your perspective on this. Interesting about the Executive Director for non-profit. That sounds like a really interesting career evolution that's worth exploring.

It's funny you mention the Strategy position. I have been pondering about what "Product Management" means or how it can be repositioned as many don't understand the value PM's provide. I did contemplate whether the role would be better suited as a "Strategy" position. However, not sure if that works at the IC level as much as the leadership level...

Yeah, I understand what you mean. I think maybe what I was trying to get at was someone who enjoys PM-ing might also enjoy being a strategy position. Maybe at their own company or some other organization. Appreciate this discussion!
